Looking Beyond the Looks

Interestingly, in my opinion, the purpose of life is a life of purpose itself.
I enjoy every moment of being a doctor, though sometimes I feel that the ideas that we have, the message that we want to spread, are for some reason not being put out the way we want them to. As doctors most of our interactions are on a one-on-one basis. In this case, how do we reach to the masses? That too in a way they would want to learn and interact with.
With this question in my mind and the sheer will to make it happen in my heart, I went on a creativity hunt- from using the “Gully Boy” video to spread awareness to stop steroid abuse, to mustering the courage of approaching Shankar Mahadevan to help make a short film as a tribute to those parents, whose children are all COVID warriors, the world of social media has given me a sense of purpose to go beyond whatever I do and address the people at large.
I am a dermatologist, and I strongly believe that dermatology is not just about the looks. Instead, it’s about looking beyond the looks. It’s much deeper than the skin itself.
With this thought in mind, I started my initiative called: Skin in the Game. It is be a series of episodes, which will focus on raising awareness regarding your skin. The skin is much more than an organ. It’s an interface between you and the rest of the world, your bodyguard, and above all, it’s the mirror that reflects what is happening on the inside your organs and your mind. In today’s era, we are surrounded by a lot of unnecessary information. Hence, I wish to give out content, which would be based on pure science and backed by a lot of research so that no one has to fall prey to any marketing gimmicks! Life is much beyond books.
Similarly, dermatology is much beyond the looks; treating inside out and bringing out the best possible version of yourself.
